Commercial relationships must be visible

An affiliate link can earn a publisher a commission when a reader takes an eligible action, such as making a purchase. Sponsorship, a free product or another benefit can also create a relationship readers need to understand.

NWT’s standard is to disclose the actual relationship beside or before the relevant recommendation, link or advertisement. This page does not replace a disclosure where the commercial content appears.

How to recognize paid content

Advertisement

A paid placement, visibly separated from editorial reporting.

Sponsored content

Content with an identified sponsor and a description of the relationship.

Commission-bearing link

A link accompanied by plain language explaining that NWT may earn a commission from the action.

Editorial independence

Commercial interest must not determine factual findings, treatment of sources or correction decisions. Product claims, prices and availability need their own evidence; a commercial offer is not evidence for a news claim.

Check the merchant’s current terms, price and privacy information before purchasing or providing information. External merchants and networks control their own services.

Current site features

Display advertising and advertising tags are currently paused. The site does not operate a public checkout or reader subscriptions.
